Los Sueños is a resort and marina complex situated at Playa Herradura on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica. It is important to take this into account if you are making travel arrangements: the Los Sueños Marriott is not just an alternative name for the Los Sueños resort. The hotel is part of the bigger Los Sueños Resort & Marina development, which also features private homes and vacation accommodations, Los Sueños Marina, Marina Village, restaurants, shops, and an 18-hole golf course.

Staying at Los Sueños

You have the option of staying at the Marriott on site or alternatively choosing among the condos, villas, and other types of vacation homes that are part of the larger resort area; the best choice for you will depend on the size of your group and your travel style.

Staying in a hotel is convenient for couples or people on short trips, whereas vacation homes are more suitable for families, fishing groups, or tourists who need extra bedrooms, kitchens, and common living areas.

Since Los Sueños is not a resort that offers everything, you usually have to arrange accommodation, meals, fishing trips, tours, and transportation on your own.

Fishing from Los Sueños Marina

One of the main reasons for choosing Los Sueños is sport fishing; the marina offers access to both offshore and inshore charters which focus on various species according to the season and the conditions.

Those who are serious about fishing might prefer to stay for several nights and plan their trip around full-day fishing charters, while people who are combining fishing with other activities can pair a charter day with golf, visits to the rainforest, trips to the waterfalls, or some time spent in Herradura and Jacó.

Golf, tours, and nearby activities

The fact that the resort is situated near Jacó is particularly advantageous since you can stay in the more peaceful Herradura area and at the same time go to Jacó for surf lessons, dining, shopping, the nightlife, and other tours.

Los Sueños vs. Playa Herradura

Although Los Sueños is located in the Playa Herradura area, the two names are not interchangeable. Playa Herradura refers to the larger coastal community and bay, whereas Los Sueños Resort & Marina is the master-planned resort development in that area. The resort gives its address as Playa Herradura, Garabito, Puntarenas.

How many days to spend in Los Sueños

For most visitors, a stay of three to five nights is ideal. Although a shorter visit can include one day devoted to fishing or an adventure, along with some time at the resort, four or five nights allow more time to fish, play golf, visit Jacó, and take a day trip without rushing.

If Los Sueños is mainly where you fish, plan your trip based on the number of charter days you want and allow some flexibility for weather and ocean conditions.
